No, while battery storage is a perfect partner for Solar PV, it is a highly effective standalone solution. A “Grid-Tied” battery system can be programmed to charge from the National Grid whenever prices are lowest. However, if you do have solar panels, a battery ensures you utilise 100% of your generation by capturing excess energy that would otherwise be exported to the grid for a lower return, effectively making your facility “off-grid” for longer periods.
Modern commercial battery systems, typically using Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) technology, are designed for high-cycle durability. Most systems offer a lifespan of 10 to 15 years, or approximately 6,000 to 10,000 charge cycles, with minimal physical maintenance required.
