With over 30 years’ experience supporting businesses across the UK, we understand that emergency lighting is about more than compliance—it’s about safety, reliability, and peace of mind. That’s why we design, install, and maintain tailored emergency lighting systems that meet fire safety standards, support safe evacuation, and integrate seamlessly with your site’s wider safety plan. From initial design and risk assessments to installation, testing, and maintenance, our solutions ensure ongoing compliance and dependable protection when it matters most.

At FMSG, we’ve made a conscious decision to focus our services within select UK counties—not to limit our reach, but to raise our standards. By operating within a defined region, we’re able to maintain exceptional service standards, respond faster, support our teams more effectively, and build stronger, longer-lasting relationships with our clients. It’s not about covering more ground—it’s about delivering more value where it matters most.
Over the last three decades we have become experts in a variety of sectors, some of our specialisms include:
During a power outage or fire, clear visibility is critical to ensuring fast and safe evacuations.
We install emergency lighting that automatically activates when mains power fails—illuminating escape routes, exits, and safety equipment without delay. With FMSG, you can be confident your site is prepared for emergency situations that seamlessly navigate occupants to safely.
Inadequate or outdated emergency lighting systems can put lives at risk and leave your business non-compliant with UK fire safety law.
FMSG designs, installs, and maintenans fully compliant emergency lighting systems that meet the latest standards and your specific building layout. From escape routes to high-risk task areas, we ensure your site remains safe, certifiable, and audit-ready at all times.
A failure in your emergency lighting during a real incident could result in serious harm—and long-term reputational damage.
We use high-quality components with reliable battery backup systems to ensure lighting stays operational when it’s needed most. Our proactive maintenance packages also ensure ongoing performance, so you can focus on running your business with complete peace of mind.
Manually testing emergency lights is time-consuming, disruptive, and easy to miss—particularly across large or multi-site estates.
FMSG offers emergency lighting systems with built-in self-testing functionality, allowing for automated checks and centralised reporting. This reduces manual inspection workloads, minimises human error, and ensures you’re always audit-ready.

“The FMSG team exceeded my expectations. I called them in about a problem that no other engineer was previously able to resolve, and not only did they sort it, but they went above and beyond with an end-to-end service. Fantastic team all-round.”

Yes. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, all non-domestic premises must have adequate emergency lighting to illuminate escape routes in the event of a power failure. This ensures that employees and visitors can safely exit the building and that emergency equipment can be easily located. Failure to maintain a compliant system can lead to heavy fines, voided insurance, or even prosecution in the event of an accident.
Maintained emergency lights operate continuously like standard light fittings but stay lit via a backup battery during a power cut; these are common in cinemas or hospitals. Non-Maintained fittings only trigger when the main power supply fails and are typically used in office environments or warehouses to save energy. FMSG provides a full site assessment to determine the correct “Category of System” required for your specific building layout and occupancy type.
To remain compliant with BS 5266-1, your system requires two types of testing. First, a monthly “flick test” (a short functional check) to ensure all lamps are operational. Second, an annual full discharge test, where the lights are left on for their full rated duration (usually 3 hours) to ensure the batteries can still hold a sufficient charge. All tests must be recorded in a fire safety logbook to provide proof of compliance for fire inspectors.
